Earlier this week, a patient of mine who’s been with me since the beginning came in. As he was walking back to the exam room, he heard construction noises and laughed about how every time he comes to PFC something new is happening. He, like many of my first patients, has enjoyed sharing with me the enjoyment he gets seeing my business do well. I have to be honest, that rocks my world. I never want to be stagnant in my business. While a medical student, I always hated those musty smelling old Doctor offices where you knew the doctor was just hanging on till he retired. No vision. No progress.
So what was the construction? Starting later this month, we are launching a cosmetic division within PFC. We will be offering various procedures to uncover the beauty that is already there! We have brought on a new person, Mary, to head up this project. She has close to 15 years of experience in this field. I want to stress to you that I will still be your family doctor and not “converting” my practice. Please look to our website later this month for the details. And if I look like my face can’t move when I smile at you, you will know why :)

Pink Eye- All of us are familiar with the highly contagious and annoying infection called Pink Eye. I always found it frustrating that although the infection didn’t do much to the patient, we are all quarantine while we have it. In fact, during medical school, I had it and wasn’t allowed to see patients for 3 weeks and was “confined” to the library to study. It truly was the most boring 3 weeks of my life.
It can be bacterial or viral in nature making a big difference in its treatment, since the eye drops only work on the bacterial kind. In general, the bacterial version tends to me more “goopy” and feels more gritty. Until recently, we didn’t have a way to diagnose between the two and therefore treated both with eye drops. A new test just came out this past month that can be done in the office and takes about 5 minutes and differentiates between the two. This will allow us to let the patient know if it isn’t going to clear up fast (viral) and if eye drops aren’t needed (viral).
Prevention includes washing hands, not sharing cups etc, and not touching your own eyes. I believe being good to your body, like getting enough sleep and lowering stress, helps too. |

Deb Smith, or physician assistant, has been working with men and women over the past few months to help supplement their bodies with proper hormone replacement. This is a growing new trend to give the body back the hormones it desires to live a normal life. The risk, in theory, is much less than the commercial synthetic hormones used in many of the studies in recent past. We have seen patients go off their depression medications, sleep again, and find energy they never knew they had. Feel free to schedule an appointment with her to discuss your options. |
