What is counseling?
Counseling is a process that encourages personal growth. It is a safe environment where a person can feel comfortable to talk about stressful or uncomfortable issues. The process can improve one’s well being, alleviate distress, resolve a crisis and increase one’s ability to live a more highly functioning life. More importantly, it will give one the freedom to be who they were created to be.
Who needs counseling? A person may need counseling if they are having difficulty dealing with the every day stress of life. This is when everyday tasks become more and more difficult. You may be consumed with obsessive thoughts or struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, addiction or mood swings. Also, a counselor may be needed if there has been a significant change in your life such as loss of a loved one, loss of a job, or a divorce.
How long does counseling last? This depends on the individual and the issues they would like to work on. It could last from a few months to a few years.
